PECHA KUCHA : THE SOUND OF CONVERSATION

about.jpg

The idea of Pecha Kucha is simple: Invite a dozen creative professionals working across a variety of fields to present 20 slides for 20 seconds each on whatever topic the speaker pleases. This format keeps presentations concise, interest levels up, and gives more people the chance to show their work and speak about their interests. Pecha Kucha New York strives to be multi-disciplinary and feature a wide range of subject matters. PKNY has consistently attracted an audience of over 500 people.

Pecha Kucha is a Japanese phrase that translates as “the sound of conversation.” Pecha Kucha Night was devised by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham of Klein Dytham Architecture as a place for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in Tokyo. Due to its popularity, Pecha Kucha Night has spread internationally to over a hundred cities.

A small group of young architects launched Pecha Kucha New York in 2007 as a quarterly event. Past events have been hosted in a range of spaces in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens (Bohemian Beer Garden, the Third Ward, Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center, and St. Mark's Church on the Bowery).

PECHA KUCHA LOVE:

Seth Godin:
"I love this idea to pieces... If you are really and truly having a meeting to discuss something, then the Pecha Kucha approach is brilliant. 20 slides, 20 seconds each. Then the PPT gets turned off."

Wired Magazine:
"Let us now bullet point our praise... [Pecha Kucha] combines business meeting and poetry slam to transform corporate cliché into surprisingly compelling beat-the-clock performance art…"
